St Johnstone Women are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Mariluz Sanchez, who joins the side having previously been at Stirling University.
Those of you who saw the final two matches of 2023 will have already seen Mariluz with her featuring as a trialist against Gartcairn and Boroughmuir Thistle.
On putting pen to paper in joining St Johnstone, Mariluz says: “I was looking for a change and St Johnstone seemed like a good fit. They are a team that I know well from facing them in my time at Stirling University.
“So far, in the time I’ve been with the side at the start of December, the girls and all the staff have been great. I have really been enjoying training and the two games where I played as a trialist.
Looking ahead to what she hopes for the second half of the season, Mariluz says “I’m hoping to help the team this second half of the season as much as I can so we can grab as many points as possible along the way.”
Manager Kevin Candy gives his thoughts on why he thought Mariluz would be a player he wanted at St Johnstone Women.
“Mariluz is a player that I’ve personally admired for many years, and I’ve always felt she was one of the standouts in the Stirling University team.
“Her energy levels along with her sheer tenacity in her style of play are both welcome additions and I’ve sadly been on the receiving end of seeing her waltz past defensive lines at previous clubs. So, to see her doing that in Saints blue will be a most welcome change indeed!
“Maz has a real drive and focus to her on-field craft and that’s something that aligns with how we see our own way of play developing.”
