St Johnstone Women are delighted to announce the signing of experienced defender Anna Murray.
Anna has featured as a trialist in the last couple matches for the club and we are pleased that she has decided to make the move to Perth a permanent one.
Reflecting on becoming a Saint, Anna says: “having played in SWPL 2 since the outset, Saints is a team I’m very familiar with having played against them a number of times. I’ve always admired the spirit and togetherness, and this club has a top reputation within Scottish Women’s Football.
“I’ve also worked well with Kev in the past during a successful spell at Boroughmuir so it made sense to sign for the club.
“I agreed to come in and train a couple of weeks ago and, not only was I impressed with the training that was delivered (this was an important factor in my decision), the talent on show exceeded expectations. Despite poor results there was a decent vibe about the place and I could sense real potential. This was reflected in the result on Sunday, there’s not a much better way to kick off your time at a club by beating the club you’ve just left and that’s all credit to the coaches for delivering a game plan and the girls for implementing it.
“I’ve enjoyed my cameo roles in both games and I’m really keen to make an impact both on and off the pitch in the second half of the season. I’m hoping to chip in with goals and assists, too!
“On a personal note, I want to get back to contributing and enjoying football again using my leadership and knowledge of the game to help us to be successful. As a team we just need to focus on winning our next game, taking it a game at a time and finish as high up the table as we possibly can.”
Manager Kev Candy gave his thoughts on securing Anna’s signature: “I’m really delighted to bring Anna on board. Having worked with her previously, I knew already that she shares a great many of the values and principles that we base our football on at Saints.
“We took a little time to assess her fit into the squad, not only from the football considerations from our perspective, but also to give Anna to identify whether we were a good fit for her, and I’m thrilled that she has found this to be the case.
“Anna hasn’t, for whatever reason, logged a great deal of match minutes this season, so whilst there is match rust to perhaps knock off, there is also a desire and hunger to make up for lost time.
“We continue to step up some aspects of our football, both on and off the field, and Anna’s arrival will assist us in both endeavours.”
